The rain won’t stop in Cape Town, and neither will the immaculate tunes. July has been a good month for local music, and here’s our roundup…
Alice Phoebe Lou’s blissful, beautiful new single “The World Above” had to take the top spot, tinged by indie-rock and a playful doo doo do-do refrain.
Second is Yellow House with “Saviour Complex”. It’s the opening track to his latest album Psalms of Yellow House, recorded during six months of gruelling isolation in the mountains of Paarl, and well it’s everything we love about Emile van Dango’s folk, dream-pop sound.
Third is R&B songstress Rowlene with her new single “Sweet Escape” – a fully-fledged Afropop offering, tinged by sweet house rhythms and amapiano-type production.
The latest collab between Pixie Whip, Hanna and MOONGA. K – titled “Loose Screws” – also features, with its nostalgic UK-garage undertones.
Other highlights include WANO’s breezy indie-soul single “Come By” and Dan Duminy’s quintessential R&B-pop crossover “You Don’t Know Me”.
Global bangers include Clairo’s “Sexy To Someone” (who will be joined on her upcoming US tour with Alice no less), Royel Otis’ “Heading For The Door” and the latest posthumous release by SOPHIE “One More Time” (feat. Popstar).
That’s enough out of us. Enjoy folks x
