Afrikalt’s Paarl to Pretoria Tour sparks a new era in Afrikaans alternative music

Afrikalt, the exciting new Afrikaans music and arts collective, is ready to lead a cultural revolution with their brand-new tour theme, “Paarl to Pretoria”. This tour promises to radically transform the Afrikaans music and arts landscape by bringing together a diverse group of talented artists who challenge the boundaries of traditional music.

With a vision to create a unique space where alternative Afrikaans art can thrive, Afrikalt is committed to exploring and breaking through the boundaries of language and creative expression. “We strive to lead a cultural movement that challenges the traditional understanding of language, music, and art, and to build an inclusive community that embraces and celebrates these alternative perspectives,” say Afrikalt as a collective.

Afrikalt’s mission includes promoting alternative expression, creative collaboration, live events, and community building. “Guided by our mission, we aim to lead a cultural revolution and create a rich and innovative space for Afrikaans art and music,” they add.

The “Paarl to Pretoria” tour will take place from August 29 to September 8, 2024, featuring an impressive line-up of artists and bands that break the rules of traditional Afrikaans music.

The tour will include the following dates and venues:

  • August 29 – Dorp, Stellenbosch
  • August 29 – Bohemia, Stellenbosch
  • August 30 – Die Naguil, Paarl
  • September 4 – Creatief, Burgersdorp
  • September 5 – Chillax, Bloemfontein
  • September 6 – Texas Rock Bar, Potchefstroom
  • September 7 – Sower Bar, Pretoria
  • September 8 – Cafe Amsterdam, Klerksdorp

The tour line-up includes psychedelic boere-punk band Karel Bester & Die Kraaines, four piece rock band The Karriers, and electronic bass-heavy dubstep duo Die Fakboiz. Guest artists include Yung Pierewiet, a rapper from Gauteng known for his powerful and unique style with songs like “Super Evil” and “Skelms”, Onskuldige Doodsvonnis, a metal band from Compton Park creatively using a unique form of Afrikaans known as “skokkuns”, as well as Nikotien, BCOM, Veervol and more!

Afrikalt’s goals include promoting art and music creativity, offering live events, and building an active community in the first year. By the five-year mark, they aim to have an international following and promote creative education. “We want to not only raise the profile of Afrikaans alternative music locally but also gain international recognition.”
