Spring is on it’s way, even if here in Cape Town we’re in for another rainy week. Alas, some comforting tunes will no doubt get us through.
First up on our playlist this month is Angie oeh’s posthumous single “Asem Teen Die Venster” taken from the Showmax Original Wyfie soundtrack. Angie was working on the official soundtrack to the ground-breaking series with Peach van Pletzen just before her sudden passing, and now, one year later, her legacy lives on in these fourteen new tracks.
Second is punk starboy Hugo Pooe with “SHADOWS”. Taken from his eclectic latest project NOT SO DISTOPIA, the young artist taps into a 2000s nostalgia whilst revealing a more vulnerable side to his gritty sound. Read our review of the album here.
Third is Jak Tomas with lush folk ambience on “Dead Water”. Taken from his sophomore project Pretty In Pink, with the discordant harmonic tinges of Radiohead’s A Moon Shaped Pool, this richly textured and beautifully innovative five-track EP was produced alongside Nic Van Reenen (Bateleur, Fever Trails, Ex Olympic), and the result is a chiming instrumental offering. Read our review here.
Jeremy Loops also features with his hopeful new single “Go Again”, offering listeners a stirring message of resilience in the face of adversity.
Other highlights include Jesse Clegg’s “Hurricane” and “Amabhoza” by the prince of amapiano himself, Aymos. Read our review of his latest album here.
And, last but not least, WE HAVE A NEW SINGLE BY THE CURE EVERYBODY. They’ve been teasing the release of new music for ages now, and finally we’ve got a taste of their upcoming album Songs Of A Lost World. The track is called “Alone” and it’s classic goth rock, with extended instrumental wanderings and a kind of transient synth melancholy, both signature of The Cure.
Don’t forget to save our playlist to your library and share! Big love <3
