British-born, Cape Town raised singer-songwriter Hannah Ray has just dropped her latest single and music video “Take Me Home” and it’s a beautifully heartfelt offering.
Filmed amidst rolling sand dunes beneath a bright sky, it’s a carefree visual that perfectly conveys the track’s message of trying to find your way back home. Directed by Samuel Wilson, it’s extremely well-crafted, tinged by vivid tones of blue and some slow-shutter runarounds for good experimental measure.
Ray’s euphoric vocals are the centrepiece of this track, with a wandering spirit that threatens to let loose at any second. With unpredictable melodic runs that fall in and out of falsetto with expert ease, Ray pushes her melancholic sound with perfect artistic restraint.
As the minutes roll by, the song slowly breaks down into something more electronic, with a heady bassline that calls to mind the likes of Kelly Lee Owens.
Off the back of her Rocking The Daisies main stage debut, and with a distinctly singular sound, Hannah Ray is definitely one to watch as we head into the new year.
