New kid on the block Amancia makes her R&B debut with “Breathing In Water”

Soulful, poetic, and deeply personal, Amancia introduces herself to the world with her debut single “Breathing in Water”.

Written back in 2012 when she was just 17-years-old, the song reflects the innocent, dreamlike ideas of love that a young girl once held. It captures a moment in time—a fairytale version of romance imagined by someone who was still figuring out what love could be.

“It was a metaphor for how impossible love felt for me at that age,” Amancia explains. With all the hallmarks of classic R&B, rendered with a kind of subtle and minimal production style, “Breathing In Water” is both sultry and sensitive.

The bare rhythmic bones of this track allow for Amancia’s honey-lipped falsettos to shine, and while the hook starts to feel a little repetitive at times, perhaps lacking compositional depth, Amancia proves herself a poet at heart with this emotive first offering.
