A love letter to his community, Ziggy4x makes a fearless debut with Gangsta Baby

The Cape Flats’ very own Ziggy4x, one of the country’s most thrilling new artists, has finally released his debut EP Gangsta Baby, and with its gritty beat and fearless swagger, this is a seven-track tour de force, marking a new era for South African hip-hop.

Produced by BakerGotTheKeys, whose influence shapes much of the project’s distinct, high energy sound, the EP also features production contributions from Herc Cut The Lights, Jaydon Lewis and Lotus Jojo.

An unapologetic tribute to Ziggy4x’s roots, each and every track is infused with the essence of the Cape Flats, capturing the unfiltered power, pride, and grit that has defined Ziggy4x’s journey up till now.

“This EP is my love letter to the Cape Flats and to everyone who’s had to fight to be heard,” says Ziggy. “Gangsta Baby is about stepping up, speaking out and making an impact—on your own terms.”

The EP’s lead single, “Gunshots” featuring Durban powerhouse Blxckie, is an anthemic, hard-style offering with intricate melodic edge and bold vocal tones. Together, they make for an unstoppable duo, as the young rapper now joins the ranks of the country’s biggest and best.

Other highlights include “Hulle Weet” and “Bullies”, each track a deeply personal journey into Ziggy’s psyche, showing that there’s also a softer side to his seemingly tough leather exterior.

Growing up in the Cape Flats has certainly hardened Ziggy to the world, but music is his antidote to inner peace. Fan favourites “Honne” and “Hou Kan Jy” might seem like simple reiterations of Afrikaans rap, but there’s a healing power even in these rigid drill arrangements.

Rhythms pulsate like the beating of a heart, resonating with the fearless community to whom they are dedicated. And this is Ziggy4x’s greatest achievement. With empathy and resilience, he holds a mirror up to all those asking to be seen.
