With twinkling instrumentals and sparse rhythm, Ama Gaisie is angelic on her new project Cocoon

Meet Ama Gaisie, an ethereal weaver of jazz, electronic and indie-pop. London-born and Cape Town-raised, Gaisie grew up between two drastically different cultures, and it’s this dichotomy between city and nature that manifests in her latest project Cocoon.

There are two very distinct strains running through this five-track EP. Drawing on the soulful sounds of Amy Winehouse and Aretha Franklin, Gaisie also discovered a buzzing electronic music community whilst living in London. She now bridges the gap between these various genres, resulting in a warm and visceral sound that is textured by electric synths and soothing melodies.

Cocoon is all about being in your 20’s; the ups and downs, the discoveries, and that uncomfortable yet magical process of metamorphosis as you enter into adulthood. In this way, Gaisie’s writing is beautifully organic, touched by a gentle production skill that elevates her sound.

Title track “Cocoon” is perhaps the best representation of Gaisie’s talent. With twinkling instrumentals and sparse rhythm, her angelic vocals swirl with tenderness. Think Alice Phoebe Lou, only jazzier.

Let this album wash over you, every chord a conduit for Ama Gaisie’s budding artistry.
