Greenpop’s Reforest Fest ramps up to plant 5000 trees this Easter

Now in its 14th year, Greenpop’s flagship tree-planting and forest restoration event, Reforest Fest, returns for Easter Weekend this 2025, and we absolutely cannot wait.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Bodhi Khaya Nature Retreat in the Overberg, the festival will unfold over four days, from the 18th to the 21st of April, inviting participants of all ages to come together to plant thousands of trees.

Camping under the stars, enjoying plant-based culinary experiences and live music performances are just some of the highlights on offer at Reforest Fest this year, with a stellar lineup that includes Grassy Spark, Zolani Mahola, Sibusile Xaba, The Rivertones, Balu Soul Rhythm and more.

“Art and music are a big part of Reforest Fest,” says Greenpop co-founder and executive director, Misha Teasdale. “They energise our gathering, showing that restoration is about elevating our spirits whilst simultaneously healing the land.”

In addition to live music, the site will feature interactive art installations, with wellness and nature-based
sessions held regularly. Attendees will also enjoy delicious meals crafted by renowned local chefs, and expert speakers will enrich the experience by sharing insights into key environmental issues and
practical tools for embracing sustainability at home.

“Cultural expression at Reforest Fest unites us,” says Teasdale. “Through the epic music and the various arts, we give our guests deeply meaningful ways to find connection with each other and with nature.”

Greenpop is an official partner of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, a global project focused on stopping, slowing and reversing the damage to ecosystems across the globe. As part of these efforts, Reforest Fest is an opportunity for hands-on environmental action, allowing people to participate in a meaningful, real restoration movement, and combat climate anxiety.

“Art, dialogue and music aren’t just add-ons at Reforest Fest—they’re catalysts,” says Teasdale. “They break through boundaries and spark meaningful action. In the restoration space, culture is a game-changer, making our mission more than just the action of planting trees, but about seeding hope.”

In 2024, 1200 activists, team members, facilitators, musicians, partners and guest speakers came
together to plant 5000 indigenous trees. 419 kg of waste was also diverted from landfill and sent to be recycled instead, proving Reforest Fest’s sustainability-centred ethos, and their commitment to zero-waste, environmentally conscious practices.

“It really was an amazing experience,” says Reforest Fest 2024 crew member, Ruth. “I felt so connected to the earth, connected to the food, connected to the beautiful, colourful, delightful people, connected to music. It felt like a constant flow of enriching and refreshing energy was swirling effortlessly throughout the space. I’m definitely coming back, and I’m definitely recommending it to others.”

At its core, Greenpop’s Reforest Fest is about ecosystem restoration, and they’re poised for another year of tree-hugging, tree-planting, tree-loving celebrations.
