Pussy Heaven’s debut single is a raw and fearless introduction to their sound

Remember Rokkeloos? Iconic, right? Well, Pussy Heaven are here to be a new and defiant voice for all, making their debut with fearless and feral single titled “P.S.”

A wild expression of frustration, whilst a simultaneous plea for sincerity, “P.S.” has two obviously fantastic components. It’s phenomenal production (thanks to local legend Matthew Fink) and it’s punk-infused angst.

The Jozi band comprises musicians who are no strangers to the scene. Tessa Lily, Auriel Lefebre and Jade Abbott bring their experience and genius to the track, with contrasting vocal delivery.

The horror-genre-adjacent rhyme, “Golden fractions, broken actions, mixed reactions, violent factions” (think “One, two, Freddy’s coming for you” from A Nightmare on Elm Street) is delivered as a soft chant against the harshness of “Give it to me straight“.

Pussy Heaven is a conduit for listeners to express themselves and the complex relationships they share with the world. Vocalist and guitarist Tessa explains, “The song came out of my frustration with being gaslit. Seeing things for what they obviously are, but people trying to convince me that that’s not what’s going on. From governments, to corporations, to friends and partners. Everyone deserves the truth, to make informed decisions—even if the truth hurts. It’s a nursery rhyme for depressive realists, essentially.”

Dance is how “P.S.” is visually brought to life. Director Marnus Strydom explains, “I wanted to introduce the band by creating a video that highlights the strong rhythmic nature of their sound.”

The beautifully choreographed visual serves as a great way for Pussy Heaven to say, “our music will move people in one way or another.”

If you’re looking for a new favourite band in 2025, Pussy Heaven might just be it.
