Winner of Texx And The City’s #BandOrBust 2024, SAMA-nominated Carla Franco is turning up the heat with her latest single and video “HOT MESS” — a bold, biting and brutally honest track.
Known for her emotionally charged storytelling and her genre-bending sound, the hearing-impaired singer-songwriter pulls no punches in this fierce, cathartic anthem about loving someone who just can’t love you back. It’s a sonic firestorm to say the least, with raw production to match Franco’s punchy lyricism.
“Sharp drums, distorted guitars and layered vocals reflect the emotional volatility of the song,” says Franco. “It’s messy by design,” she continues. “We wanted it to sound like the chaos that it represents.”
Speaking on the eclectic visual accompaniment directed by Kyle Lendon, Franco adds, “The song may sound like it’s about someone else, but the music video makes it personal. It’s about facing your own role in the wreckage.”
Filmed in a dusty and cluttered props store, Franco plays the role of a composed and well-presented woman, but her emotional alter-ego quickly unravels. It’s a dramatic encounter of personalities, representing the often ignored internal conflict we all experience—the quiet complicity that allows toxicity to take root and grow.
In a world where accountability is too often displaced by blame, “HOT MESS” emerges as a courageous and introspective piece of art.
Bravo Franco. Bravo.
