It’s slim pickings in South Africa when it comes to viable live music venues, and over the last few years, Smoking Kills has become a Joburg institution.
So imagine my shock and horror when I read that there’s a small group of miscreants that want to get it closed down. CLOSED DOWN? Are you jas? This place has been a fervent supporter of South African music and more to that, it’s provided a hub and a safe space for SA’s LGBTQIA+ community to shine and thrive.
And we haven’t even begun to talk about the fact that Smoking Kills has also been named one of the World’s 50 Best Discovery Cocktail Bars… if you ask me, this whole thing is beyond preposterous.
But now it’s our turn–Smoking Kills has always been there for us and now it’s our turn to be there for them. Sign this petition, every single voice helps.
