Meet After Five, Cape Town’s new community-led event celebrating African electronic music

Started by Airy Collective, After Five is a community-led initiative spotlighting Cape Town’s most exciting, genre-defying artists in the electronic music space.

“The event is called After Five, which is a play on the idea of working a 9 to 5 and then having somewhere to go after,” says Airy Collective director and founder of After Five, Nana Anazodo.

Their inaugural event will take place on the 1st of August at Botanik Social House, and the line-up is brilliantly curated if we do say so ourselves. Headliner Babes Wodumo will be supported by Shakes, Surreal Sessions, Soulchoke, Mila and Ghst Bunny, promising a diverse night of Gqom, Three-Step, Afro-House and immersive electronica.

“I just want something that is for Cape Town by Cape Town,” says Anazodo. “This event is all about celebrating good music, specifically African dance music, and supporting the city’s incredible wealth of talent.”

With so many new events popping up on Cape Town’s budding club scene, events like Bathhouse and GIDA just to name a few, it’s obvious that there’s a new wave of young entrepreneurs who are revolutionising the city’s nightlife, and the best thing about these parties is that they’re all community-driven.
