Hunting Ghosts, Finding Demons finds a far more self-assured Sunken State. The EP marks a genuine step up in writing and collaborations, cementing the band’s place as one of SA’s top metal band.
Much of the project’s themes allude to this growth. The powerful title track features Reegan Du Bussion and tackles the internal struggles of growing in the face of doubt, while “Self Sabotage” with Lwandile Prusent resonates as an anthem about shedding skin and standing in your power.
Social commentary remains a staple with “Bring Back The Guillotine” encompassing rage reflective of the world’s state, as Dwayne Hees being a top-tier vocalist is undeniable and his voice carries this EP with commanding power.
Hunting Ghosts, Finding Demons succeeds as both evolution and statement of intent. While groove metal aspects remain strong, hardcore incorporation gives new flavour to their sound.
