Get your floaties ready. South Africa’s much-loved riverside festival, Up The Creek, returns from 5–8 February 2026 on the banks of the Breede River near Swellendam. Presented by Jose Cuervo, this jol has already sparked massive hype. Early Bird tickets sold out in just a couple of hours earlier this month, surpassing all previous Creek records.
The first phase of artists for 2026 has been revealed, and the lineup is suitably stacked. It features Jeremy Loops, Van Pletzen, Southern Wild, Jackal & the Wind, Nomadic Orchestra, Rubber Duc, Tree63, Droomsindroom, Zaan Sonekus, Paradise Citizen, David Derman, Dirty Disco Records, Faker Streets, and Namibia’s The Ell’s all confirmed. “We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to secure artists who embody the spirit of the Creek,” says Damon Forbes, Festival Co-Owner and MD of BreakOut Events. “Expect newcomers, surprises, collaborations, and sets that will keep you dancing from the riverbanks to the main stage.”
But of course, the Creek isn’t just about who’s on stage — it’s about how you watch them. Festival director Caitlin Hanley stresses the heart of the experience lies in the river itself. “There’s something about Up The Creek that you can’t find anywhere else,” she told TATC. “The river is the heartbeat of the festival — it’s where strangers become friends. Live music always sounds better out under the stars.” Alongside the music, festival-goers can expect swims, river floats, food trucks, dance-offs, and upgraded camping or glamping options for those who prefer a softer return to shore. Now in its 35th year, the festival still keeps it real. That means no VIP areas and no nonsense, just artists and Creekers lilo-to-lilo. “It’s our mission to keep Up The Creek as green, clean, and sustainable as possible so future generations can enjoy the same magic we’ve already enjoyed,” Hanley adds.
Phase 1 tickets are live, with Phase 2 and Saturday passes dropping soon via upthecreek.co.za.
