South African rock mainstay Francois van Coke is marking ten years of his solo career with the release of Happy en lucky, a short music documentary tracing his journey from 2015 to 2025. The film offers a reflective look at Van Coke’s evolution as a solo artist, pairing archival footage with behind-the-scenes moments to capture what has become one of the most defining chapters of his career.
Directed by Eric T. Graham of ETC Creative, the documentary features interviews with a wide circle of collaborators, including Jack Parow, Danie du Toit (Spoegwolf), Tasché, Peach van Pletzen and longtime manager Wynand Myburgh. Past and present members of his band, Die Gevaar, also share stories from the early days of his solo project through to its current iteration, offering a more intimate perspective on the artist behind the music.
Much of the footage was captured backstage at major performances, including Francois van Coke & Vriende 2025 and the Kirstenbosch Summer Concerts, anchoring the documentary in the energy of the live environment that has defined his work. More than just a retrospective, Happy en lucky positions itself as a time capsule — a look at the relationships, moments and milestones that have shaped Van Coke’s solo identity over the past decade.
