Mandisi Dyantyis to tour South Africa with landmark orchestral show

Acclaimed Afro-Soul-Jazz artist, Mandisi Dyantyis is taking his music on tour. He plays some of the country’s biggest stages this winter with the announcement of Symphonic Celebration, a new orchestral theatre tour set to move through Durban, Johannesburg, and Cape Town.

Presented alongside Real Wired Music, the production will see Dyantyis performing with full symphonic orchestras in each city, reimagining songs from across his catalogue through large-scale orchestral arrangements.

The tour opens at Durban’s Playhouse Opera House on 29 and 30 May with the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra before heading to Montecasino Teatro in Johannesburg for a three-night run in July alongside the Egoli Symphonic Orchestra.

The final stop lands at Cape Town’s Artscape Opera House on 22 August, where Dyantyis will perform with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. Rather than simply scaling up his existing live show, Symphonic Celebration revisits and reinvents the emotional depth of projects like Somandla, Cwaka, and Intlambululu within a more theatrical setting.

Dyantyis has steadily positioned himself as one of South Africa’s most important contemporary musical voices, moving fluidly between jazz, Afro-soul, theatre, and composition work. Symphonic Celebration feels like a natural extension of a trajectory that includes composing for productions including Rise: The Siya Kolisi Story and Nina, By Whatever Means, bringing the intimacy of his songwriting in conversation with the grand scale of orchestral performance.
