Published by Sastrugi Press, the book features interviews and commentary from artists, promoters, filmmakers, and scene veterans across Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and beyond.
For South African readers, the project also acknowledges punk’s often overlooked local history. Among the contributors are members of legendary South African punk outfit Safari Suits, alongside filmmaker David Chislett, producer of the documentary Punk in Africa. Released in 2012, Punk in Africa documented the role punk and alternative music played across South Africa, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe during apartheid and beyond, exploring how underground scenes became spaces for political resistance, identity formation, and cultural rebellion.
