Liefde by die Dam festival marks 10th anniversary with a star-studded lineup

Liefde by die Dam is set to celebrate its 10th anniversary with its flagship Johannesburg event at Emmarentia Dam on Saturday, 1 August, bringing together some of the biggest names in Afrikaans music for a full day of live performances. This year’s lineup includes Die Heuwels Fantasties, Francois van Coke, Spoegwolf, Early B, Eden, Juanita du Plessis, Robbie Wessels, Karlien van Jaarsveld, Ricus Nel, Riaan Benadé, Bobby van Jaarsveld and more.

Having performed at the festival with both Die Heuwels Fantasties and Fokofpolisiekar over the past decade, Hunter Kennedy says the event has built its reputation by putting the audience experience first. “The design of the day itself is an artwork in its own right,” he says. “I feel that the levels of this festival offering are totally superior in all its combined elements. Liefde by die Dam should be an indispensable date in any music and festival design lover’s calendar.”

Festival favourite Robbie Wessels, who recently teamed up with Die Heuwels Fantasties and Jack Parow for the rugby anthem “Bomb Squad Blues”—a song conceived backstage at a previous Liefde by die Dam event—also reflected on the festival’s unique atmosphere. “Liefde is one of those festivals that you just have to attend to understand what the hype is all about,” he says. “At my first Liefde-concert I was astounded by the vibe: thousands of young people singing together with each artist throughout the day. With heart. It is something incredible to experience.”

Tickets start at R399 for general admission, with children’s and VIP tickets also available through Ticketmaster and the festival’s official website.
