Rachel Chinouriri has announced her sophomore album, I think I spoke too soon, alongside its shimmering lead single, One Song Away From Crying. The synth-pop track captures the emotional tipping point of a night out, balancing glossy dance-floor production with the creeping feeling that it’s time to leave. “It’s less about the night itself but more about a reflection of a deeper internal conflict with your self-worth that you haven’t looked at yet,” Chinouriri says of the song, which arrives with a dreamlike music video directed by Dora Paphides.
As follow-up to her acclaimed 2024 debut album, I think I spoke too soon expands on Chinouriri’s indie-pop foundations while exploring themes of identity and personal evolution. Written and recorded between London, Hereford and Los Angeles, the album features collaborators including APOB, Mary Weitz, Glen Roberts, Daniel Hylton-Nuamah, Lucy Dacus and Eli Teplin.
Framed around the emotional arc of a single night out, the record follows moments of vulnerability, self-reflection and transformation, with One Song Away From Crying opening the narrative. “My core thing is you can change who you are at any moment and you can forgive yourself at any moment,” Chinouriri explains. “I think forgiving yourself is the first step in becoming a better person.”
Due for release on 16 October 2026, I think I spoke too soon marks the beginning of another ambitious chapter for one of the UK’s most compelling young songwriters.
