Originally launched under Defected Records before becoming an independent label, Sondela Recordings has spent the past four years establishing itself as one of the leading platforms for African electronic music. Now, it’s entering a new chapter with the launch of Sondela Volt, a new imprint dedicated to the deeper, darker and more club-focused corners of Afro House, Afro Tech and 3Step.
The imprint makes its debut with the single “Ascendance,” a collaboration between returning Sondela artist Phila De Giant and label newcomer Ayden J. Built around hypnotic percussion, rolling grooves and peak-time energy, the Afro Tech release sets the tone for the sound Sondela Volt hopes to cultivate as it creates space for emerging artists pushing African electronic music further onto dance-floors around the world.
The release has already earned early support from respected selectors including Enoo Napa, Da Capo, Caiiro, THEMBA, DJEFF, Sky White, Vanco, Hyenah and Blanka Mazimela. As Sondela Recordings continues to grow its ecosystem, Sondela Volt arrives as a natural extension of the home the label has created for the underground sounds shaping the future of African electronic music.
