Beatlab, the digital platform connecting DJs and music creators, is expanding its offering for Africa through a new partnership with Soul Candi Institute of Music (SCIM), giving Beatlab members access to professional music education at discounted rates.
The partnership will offer six SCIM courses across online and in-person formats, with Digital Music Production with Ableton, Music Business Management and Music Theory Fundamentals for Electronic Musicians available online through Beatlab’s community platform, while Higher Certificate in Music Technology, Music Production Fundamentals and DJ & Live Performance will be delivered at SCIM’s Johannesburg studios.
All six programmes are written and taught by South African producer, DJ, and SCIM lead instructor Ryan Murgatroyd, combining practical music education with industry knowledge. The partnership also draws on Soul Candi’s more than 25-year history in South African house music culture and its role in developing local DJs, producers and music professionals.

With our combined resources, we can scale opportunities for people who want to learn, grow and connect.”
The partnership forms part of Beatlab’s broader mission to create pathways for African music creators to learn, and access opportunities within the industry, with further member benefits expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
Beatlab and Soul Candi will officially launch the partnership at a media event in September at Artistry in Sandton, bringing together DJs, producers, artists, media and industry figures from both communities. The event will offer a closer look at the partnership’s ambitions for music education and creator development across Africa.
