5 parties you need to go to: September 2026

Is it too soon to say we’ve made it through winter? The sun is setting later, and the nighttime is slowly starting to get that groove back – you know, things are feeling warmer. But before we can celebrate the imminent arrival of “Dezemba” we must first enter the collective chaos that is silly season. Which is one of my personal favourite times to get lost on a dance-floor every weekend. Got to exorcise my annual demons so I can look cute for summer. Come join me? Here are five parties this month that you should definitely go to.

[UN]COMMON

The Muizenburg Commons is quickly becoming a little hotspot for Cape Town’s underground, and it’s events like this one that make the venue so exciting. Curated by producer 5TEE in collaboration with Down South, this First Thursdays happening promises “weird, rare, and uncommon” sounds, including the debut of 5TEE’s EP ‘iuvenibus,’ followed by deep dives into the “strange and titillating” fringes of bass music with sets from Songo Ananda and r/Anvil (live!). Let’s get weird, my guy.

Ses’fikile

As one of the four recipients of this year’s Jagermeister SAVE THE NIGHT fund, popular Art Fair afterparty turned community jol Ses’fikile is piloting an innovative Safe Exit System at their upcoming September turn-up. This includes phone charging stations, hydration, and designated pickup area with people to escort you to and from the venue, taking the care and collective joy of their dance-floor beyond the nightclub. Expect a thoughtfully curated lineup, immersive production and a welcoming atmosphere.

Not On The List

Three of Joburg’s most exciting underground nightlife collectives are coming together to gooi an unofficial afterparty for Art Fair, and that can only mean one thing: vibes! Fagwinter, VNJ Bodega, and Homeground combine their powers like the Charmed Ones to conjure up two dancefloors promising genres from Gqom, to House, to Trap, with live acts in the mix alongside DJs like NKLY, Lelowhatsgood, Fagwinter, and AN.D to keep your ass shaking all night.

Deylin Universe: All Night Long

Back from his yearly pilgrimage to the straße of Berlin, wunderkind Deylin Universe is returning home the only way he can: loudly! The DJ and producer is playing a mammoth six hour set on his home turf at EVOL nightclub, an all-nighter he’s calling “my homecoming and love letter to EVOL.” Tickets are available at the door only, so come early or risk missing your chance to step into Deylin’s universe. You don’t want to miss this one!

When: 25 September | Where: EVOL, Cape Town | Tickets: Door only, R100 – 130

Mixtape

The passion project of DJ Mila-Rose, Mixtape is a party series that focuses on creating intentional and intimate dance-floors where the music does all the talking. For this edition, the huns are transforming the black box theatre of Kaapstaad Toneelhuis into a lucky-packet kiki, featuring Mila-Rose, Lelowhatsgood and Chef KD curating a night of immersive moments and a dancefloor filled with people who are all there for the same reason: the music.
