Tattoos, Bicycles and Booze

Even though the 4th Cape Town International Tattoo Convention takes place between the 27th and the 29th of January 2012, it’s never too early to kick off promotion vibes.

Especially when it involves awesome company and Sailor Jerry cocktails on a Monday evening.

Bombay Bicycle Club, at the top end of Kloof Str, really is a gorgeous little spot and played host to a handful of media, musicians and mates who all have a common ground when it comes to how we feel about the art of tattooing.

Sailor SoGoods flowed from the talent behind the bar and so did the conversation, as Bianca Coleman and Christy Lee Howells dispensed their hard-earned tattoo advice to me. “So you’re thinking of getting a portrait??” “Don’t get a portrait on your back, it limits the option of a back-piece later in life.” Wise words.

The ladies from Peachy Keen.

A little buffet of delish finger food then went on in-between a little bit of conversation about Bob Tyrrell and more than a few Cuervos to get the night well on its way.

I questioned a few artists as to what they liked/disliked about last year’s Convention at The BMW Pavillion vs when they had it at The CTICC and the comments were basically the same – the layout of THE CTICC was better, but The BMW Pavilion has a tad more character. Great news because as far as I know, The Convention’s being held in the same space next year.

A few Sailor SoGoods and this happens.

All in all, a great way to officially launch the 4th Cape Town International Tattoo Convention.

You can be sure that I’ll keep you up-to-date on any Convention details, but to be kept in the loop with all breaking developments and announcements, follow the Southern Ink Xposure peeps on Facebook and Twitter.
