The 5th season of the winter series, Old Mutual Music in the Gardens, will again feature the hottest names in South African music between June and November. Held in the idyllic Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden and Pretoria National Botanical Garden, the series will ensure that you and your family stay toasty while the temperatures dip this Winter.
From Simphiwe Dana, Jaziel Brothers and Freshlyground through to Shortstraw, The Parlotones and South African icon, Johnny Clegg, concert goers can expect an afternoon of music that will entertain the whole family. With children under 12 entering for free, pack a picnic basket and come spend the afternoon with your favourite musicians, bands and artist.
Launching in Pretoria on the 14th of June, concert goers can expect an afternoon of exceptional urban-pop from the Jaziel Brothers. South African Music Award Winners for Best Duo or Group, ‘The Journey’ and ‘You’re The Voice’ singers will touch the hearts and minds of all who hear them perform with their conscious messaging and rich lyrical content. The Jaziel Brothers define their music as Urban pop but they they would prefer to call it “South Africa on another level” with their music being influenced by an eclectic mix of Afro, Soul, Pop, Gospel and Kwaito.
Following close behind, the launch of the Johannesburg shows on 28 June with a double header from Shortstraw and Matthew Mole. Both are no stranger to music lovers, with Matthew Mole being nominated for both ‘Best Pop Album’ and ‘Best Male Artist of the Year’ at the South African Music Awards, this talented singer and songwriter brings to the Gardens his unique blend of Folk music with an Electronic backbone as a multi instrumentalist, performing with kick drums, guitar, harmonica’s and more. Known for his singles ‘Take Yours I’ll Take Mine’ and ‘The Wedding Song’ fans of Matthew Mole can look forward to his show back in South Africa after spending 2 months in London writing and recording his new album.
Shortstraw are the 5 piece indie rock band from Johannesburg whose comical lyrics along with dashing good looks have catapulted the band to multiple nominations and awards including the ‘Best 2014 Album’, ‘Best Music Video’, ‘Best Indie Band’ and ‘Best Alternative Band at the MTV Africa Music Awards’. Their singles ‘Bikini Weather’ , ‘Good Morning Sunshine’ and ‘Couch Potato’ have seen success on radio and in 2015 released their second full length studio album – Youthless.
Gates to the Gardens open at 10am with the concerts taking place from 2pm until 5pm. Concert goers are encouraged to come early, bring a picnic basket and spend a leisurely day in the mild Winter sun.

Tickets prices for the 2015 Old Mutual Music in the Gardens series:
Tickets are available before concert day via www.plankton.mobi for R50 per adult and on the day from the entrance for R100 per adult. Children under the age of 12 enter for free.
Tickets are available before concert day for the Johnny Clegg’s performance on 30 August 2015 at Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden via computicket for R190 per adult and children under the age of 13 for R80. Event gates will open at 3pm and concert will start at 5pm.
