Introducing Wêreld Records

Wêreld Records is a fresh new movement of alternative South African musicians and visual artists, established in Pretoria in August 2015. The Wêreld Records Launch show on Saturday 19 September 2015 at the iMPAC Film Festival features seven otherworldly musicians from among the Wêreld ranks, playing live music alongside a big screen backdrop projecting cinematic live visuals. The iMPAC Film Festival is the country’s leading experimental film festival, hosted at Open Window in Irene. Many of the Wêreld Records members have collaborated with iMPAC in various ways over the past few years.

Jaco van der Merwe (of Bittereinder and Walkie Talkie) dreamed Wêreld Records up and instigated the formation of an armada of eclectic artists who are constantly figuring out new ways to travel through time and create new worlds. Together they are building a mothership designed to climb into your ribcage while you are sleeping. Resistance is, more or less, futile. Cue sci-fi sound effects (which most of the Wêreld members are alarmingly good at producing, by the way).
