Fokofpolisiekar Raise R1 Million Through Crowdfunding

This week Fokofpolisiekar hit a record amount of R1 000 000 with their Thundafund crowdfunding campaign, and many of us couldn’t believe that they’d actually done it.

This figure is unprecedented for a South African based Rewards Crowdfunding platform according to Thundafund, with it’s CEO and Director, Patrick Schofield saying, “Crowdfunding has come of age in South Africa and it has a name,’Fokofpolisiekar’! As Thundafund we’ve been delighted to work with and host the most successful crowdfunding campaign ever run on a South African platform, R1 010 000 and counting. People ask us does crowdfunding work in South Africa, is our market big enough? The resounding answer, YES. Congratulations to the band, the fans and their supporters. The crowd has spoken.”

With 4 days left of this crowdfunding campaign, the band more than doubled their original dream goal of R500 000.  So far nearly 1 300 impassioned fans backed the campaign with Lush Festival and Converse contributing R100 000 each.

To show their heartfelt appreciation Die Bende (as they are affectionately known), pledged a free show to Cape Town fans when they reached R700 000 and a free show to Gauteng fans when they hit the R800 000 mark. The free show in Cape Town will be held at Mercury Live on 25th May.  Details for the free show in Gauteng is yet to be confirmed.

But lets not forget that the main reason this all went down in the first place was so they could make a kickass new album and the main focus for the band now is to finish writing the album, as they start recording in June.

There is no working title for the album yet, but the band shared a photo on social media of working titles for the tracks.

The official release date of the album is 3 October 2017, accompanied by the release of the first singles and music video and the guys have already confirmed a whole bunch of tour dates which you can check out below.
