Vibe-driven electronic duo Modesty – comprising of Helê Schutte (vocals) and Duane De Jager (producer) – have released their debut EP The Craving and it’s equal parts dreamy, vibey, and cleverly conglomerated.
The EP is characterised by its mix of genres as it interweaves pop with house and electronica influences, ultimately creating a cohesive and simple sound that manages to be both uncomplicated and enjoyable. Expansive synths are paired with uniform beats to create whimsical, if not somewhat predictable melodies, tied together by Schutte’s wonderfully honeyed vocals as she navigates her simple, pop-style lyricism.
The Craving is a confident offering from the duo who, while not breaking any moulds, have comfortably established their sound. With the occasional catchy chorus and just enough energy to stave off monotony, while still maintaining the unhurried vibe that makes house music so appealing, the 5-track EP has found an inter-genre sweet spot.
