Bourgeoning electronic music producer and DJ Mahandana (real name Jacky Masutha) has released his impressive debut progressive house EP Die Weltanschauung, and it’s already garnering support from a number of local artists.
His journey to electronic music production is rooted in piano and music theory, something which is evident in his meticulously crafted melodies and expansive yet uniformed soundscapes. Mahandana manages to make quite the impression with only two track – although each clocks in at over seven minutes – as each one transports you into another world with their dreamlike appeal, entrancingly slow build and audial ebb and flow.
The synth-laden titular track is filled with a space-like allure, favouring an offbeat bassline and tribal-esque rhythm that gradually pick up pace for a driving build up that culminates in an oh-so smooth release time and time again.
Following on “Enchantment”, does just that with its absorbingly eclectic melodies and atmospheric energy which see the sound devolve into something slightly moodier – with a more expansive bassline and darker beat – as the track progresses.
A heavily atmospheric offering, the EP is loaded with intriguing percussive elements and well thought out harmonies that keep it from ever straying into monotony.
