25K drops his video for “Pheli Makaveli (Intro)” and it’s a gorgeous ode to community and hustle

Born in the township of Atteridgeville located to the West of Pretoria, Lehlohonolo Molefe, better known by his stage name 25K, has been perfecting his lyrical craft since high school. A voice of the youth throughout his life, the artist highlights harsh realities while driving hope and the need for community in his music.

The winner of Best Remix at the South African Hip Hop Awards 2019 finally drops his debut album, curated by Zoocci Coke Dope, next month, and “Pheli Makaveli (Intro)” is the perfect track to get us all excited.

The video is shot in 25K’s hometown, where the beloved artist moves in unison with his community and illustrates elements of life in the township. Residents celebrate the rapper’s success with him, as the Best Remix Award moves through several different hands while 25K rides the beat with impeccable ease, flawlessly switching between Setswana and English.

Eerie vocal snippets in the track bring attention to the ever-increasing crime and poverty in the area, a reminder of the difficulty of township life and the lack of available options to climb out of the struggle.

25K brings authentic, raw, and poetic energy to trap music, and plans to drop two more singles before the debut album, available for pre-order now, drops at the end of July.
