Rockers MÅNESKIN join forces with Iggy Pop for a searing punk version of their hit “I Wanna Be Your Slave”

The reigning 2021 Eurovision champions haven’t just annihilated almost every chart across the world with their hit single “I Wanna Be Your Slave”, but also scooped the attention of the Godfather of punk himself – and Iggy Pop was quick to jump onto a brand new version of the track.

MÅNESKIN, the Italian contemporary rockers whose name – or at least songs – are on everyone’s lips, wield the sort of irresistible ’90’s-esque grit-lined rock – all serrated edges and rollicking sex appeal. Just watch the original music video for “I Wanna Be Your Slave” and you’ll get the gist. It’s no wonder Iggy Pop cottoned on to their sound so fast.

Their collaborative version is just as gritty, only this time frontman Damiano David trades the mic with Iggy’s rasping, whisky-dipped growl. The track builds and strips back to a decidedly acoustic vox and drum base line, weathered and dripping with heaving rebellion. Knife-sharp guitar solos inject a wily frequency, while the tail-end of the track is punctuated by side-long almost-comments from Iggy which hit harder than any rhythm.

“And if you wanna use me I can be your puppet,” he growls and your skin might just prickle. He’s been the torchbearer of punk for nigh on sixty years and now he’s handing it over to the new generation.
