Meet Sibahle Xulu – aka S B X. The KZN-hailing R&B singer and songwriter who has found herself a niche comfortably among her contemporaries. She made waves in early May of 2021, with her first official music video for her radio single “4 U”, which debuted at No. 3 on Trace Urban Top 30 Charts and later went on to MTV BASE and Channel O.
A sequel to her 2020 release, These Songs Are About You, These Songs Are About You Too gives us another exclusive look into Sibahle’s conflict with her elusive lover. The album kicks off with “Why”, making a bold statement with alluring downtempo R&B flair that carries throughout the project, as she gets real about a relationship on the rocks and asks many a “why” question, both of her lover and of herself.
In fact, Sibahle is sifting through doubtful questions about her romantic relationship throughout the album. On stand out track, “Out in Fairland”, she sings, “If it’s not for sure and I just can’t be yours / I’m walking out the door”. The production on this album mirrors Sibahle’s vulnerable lyrics with minimalist chord progressions and a drum kit with attitude. “Over the moon” shows a stripped back version of SBX while “I Don’t Wanna Love” showcases a darker and grittier direction.
