Illustrious producer John Lundun joined forces with songstress Jessica LM a little while ago with the aim to bring music to the dancefloor that pays tribute to the many female voices in the industry. Hot off the press is “Crown” – which comes ahead of a full project, Aries EP, due to drop in June – and serves as a taster for just what’s to come.
Hinged on a thudding electronic beat and fleshed out with percussive texture, Lundun takes care of the decks while Jessica drops verse after off-kilter verse. It’s an impressive melody structure, one which sets their collaboration apart from the get go as Jessica’s restrained unpredictability shines through her soothing vocalism.
Honing in on picking yourself back up after a personal crisis – and donning that crown again like the queen you are – “Crown” is a clarion call to personal empowerment. All this bolstered by a polished, minimalist music video which sees the two of them, set against a bold, colour-shifting backdrop, reeling out the track with refined simplicity.
