Here’s something you wouldn’t have predicted, but Sam Fender performed “Back In Black” and “You Shook Me All Night Long” with AC/DC’s Brian Johnson this week.
It happened at Fender’s second hometown gig at Newcastle’s St James’ Park as Fender first introduced his former guitar teacher, Phil Martin, onto the stage, telling the crowd they would perform two AC/DC songs.
“We cannot really do AC/DC songs without the one, the only Geordie legend, the singer of AC/DC, Brian Johnson!” Fender then announced. Watch the iconic performances below.
At the first show Fender performed multiple songs from his recent album Seventeen Going Under as well as hits from his back catalogue. He also performed a beautiful cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire”.
Both Fender and Johnson are known for their thick Geordie accents and what makes this occasion so special is that Fender is the first fully Geordie band to headline St James’ Park.
“For the whole band to be from the area and to play there, it’s a really, really big thing for us,” Fender said to NME about this momentous occasion.
As a special treat, here is Fender playing his hit song “Seventeen Going Under”. Just look at that crowd.
