The Dirty Skirts New Single “Bleeding Out” Is A Triumphant Return For the Indie Rockers

Last month The Dirty Skirts bassist, Maurice Paliaga, suffered a life threatening medical emergency that saw them having to pull out of their After Dark performance, while thoughts and prayers were being sent the way of their inimitable member.

Their new single, “Bleeding Out”, is the perfect way to celebrate Maurice’s miraculous recovery.

The post-punk, indie rock track dances a fine line devotion and destruction. It’s a love song swathed in obsession, like a winter coat made of your lover’s skin.

The track is all about the ache of an unhealthy relationship dynamic: one feels everything (rage included), while the other retreats into disconnection and withdrawal, following an arc where the couple are stuck in the push-pull of it all. Beneath the chaos, both seek love, connection and repair.

“We’re really excited about our new single. It captures some of the energy we’re feeling at the moment – an urgency to be sharing music with you, alongside the poignancy of how mad life on Earth is right now,” Jeremy de Tolly told TATC. “Lyrically, the track is an intimate look into a toxic relationship pattern I used to be stuck in. It’s an invitation to move beyond combative or disassociate old behaviours into something more present, passionate and real.”

It began life as a series of biting riffs from guitarist David Moffatt, before the band built it out in remote collaboration. Produced by Josh Berry, Bleeding Out is as much an exorcism as it is an anthem.
