Jodie Reid’s delicate ode to letting go, titled “Fade Away”, might just hit you in the feels

Jodie Reid’s latest track is bred to hit you where it’s tender. And if it’s not tender there anymore, well it once was, so you’ll feel it anyways. “Fade Away” is essentially an ode to moving on, and just how long that can sometimes take.

It’s also about the strange sense of disconnection to those emotions once it all passes. You know – the point at which you can hardly believe the emotions that ruled your world had done so at all. That’s what Reid is talking about here, and she does so with the indelible delicacy of one who knows the feeling well.

Acoustic folk at its simplest, the track is pivoted off a singular guitar melody over which Reid layers her floaty vocalism. Halfway through and delicately plucked guitar launches into its frenetically strummed counterpart, lending a powerful punch to ride out the rest of the track on.

The accompanying music video, inspired by the single artwork by Michael Smith, and brought to life by the team at Corvid Curiosities, is soaked in sunshine and nostalgia alike. Reid moves through forests and streams, watching ghosts of her past self come to terms with the loss they’ve endured. It’s effortlessly simple, idyllic and moving.
