Jesse Clegg gives his fresh-faced single “Called To Hear Your Voice” a visual treatment

Jesse Clegg dropped “Called To Hear Your Voice” a couple of months back and it felt like a fresh start for the lauded muso. Drawing on the hardships of the last few years and the resilience found there, he’s channeling a poignant synth-flecked sound alongside his characteristically candid pop vocalism.

It’s a release weighted in nostalgia and sentimentality, but buoyed by the prevailing sense of unrivaled connection – even from afar. It’s about loving people from a distance, and the stark appreciation of their voice in moments needed. All this carried by a light, chiming, indie-pop trajectory. A snappy chorus is fleshed out with liquid synth and acoustic textures, while Clegg’s warm timbre lifts it at the edges.

The visual, shot in a few unrecognisably picturesque corners of Cape Town, follows a brooding Clegg and an equally somber love interest, countered by a couple of shots of him reeling out the track on a hazy stage.

Hinged on longing and the eventual joy of reconnection, Clegg beautifully captures these sentiments with a quintessentially polished offering.
