Leon-Ben Lamprecht’s hook-filled single “Vakansieliefde” is a catchy ode to summer flings

What does a summer fling sound like, you may ask? Well, Leon-Ben Lamprecht’s latest single “Vakansieliefde” does a pretty good job in chronicling all the feels that come along with a whirlwind transitory love affair.

Lamprecht, who works as a financial advisor and occasional children’s book author when he’s not writing catchy Afrikaans tunes, spins a punky, pop tale of short-lived romance. City girl meets small town boy from her holiday destination. That kind of thing – you know it, you’ve been there.

Jangling guitar, echoing pop strains and cutesy lyricism lay out a tale of Hartenbos boy meets Pretoria girl and the ensuing heartbreak come the end of the December holidays. All this visualised via a cute line-drawn animation which delivers, snapshot after snapshot, an enticing glimpse into the storyline.

It’s cute and catchy, lifted at the edges by unexpectedly heartfelt, poetic lyricism and a timeless tale of summertime romance.
