Kearne Dragon’s new single “Back and Forth” is two halves of a love story with an unhappy ending

It’s been quite a trip watching melodic rapper, Kearne Dragon, come into his own as an artist and on his new single “Back and Forth”, he proudly wears his lyrical heart on his sleeve, as gut-wrenching as it might be.

This single chronicles an age-old love story of love found and lost, with the first verse centering around the extreme highs of a relationship, how it feels to fall deeply in love, as well as the reflection of your partner in yourself and the untold joy that brings. The second verse focuses on the end of a relationship and all the pain, pettiness and heartbreak that ensues.

The recording process echoes these sentiments as Kearne comments, “I recorded the first verse in St Francis in front of my partner, and I recorded the second verse on the morning we broke up in my Port Elizabeth studio.”

Pop singer-songwriter Lloyiso (“Seasons”, “Dream About You”, “You’re So You”) also provides the background vocals and the bridge between the two sides of the song. “His bridge was intentionally recorded with him mumbling, to illustrate the confusion one feels when a long term partner leaves,” Kearne explains.

There was a reason we picked him as our Artist Spotlight artist for May, and with a new EP dropping 28 June, it’s about to be a busy second half of the year for Kearne Dragon.
