Shimmy Beach’s Summer Menu Ushers In Season

Chef Adrian Cook rules the kitchen at Shimmy Beach Club with an iron spoon, constantly tasting, testing and reinventing the menu with each new season and the Shimmy Summer Menu for this season is no exception. Now we know you’re busy and once the festive season begins, decision-making skills should be left back at the office. In light of this, we took the liberty of breaking down for you what new dishes are a must-order this summer!

Dim Sum. Out of the three new additions (shredded pork steamed dim sum bau, shiitake mushroom dim sum and prawn toast) to the dim sum menu, the prawn toast is the exact right balance of coriander (get over yourself it’s one of the best herbs) and chilli and will keep the hunger monster at bay for that little bit longer.

Lamb Kebabs. Nothing says summer like a lekker braai, and while Chef Cook hasn’t taken to braaing on the make-shift beach just yet, he has perfected his lamb kebabs, served with a not-so-sweet purple fig and a zesty tzatziki. Great for sharing and no-mess-no-fuss snacking.

Mussels. I’m obsessed with Mussels and I’ve eaten them in 50 different ways, but never in a beer and teriyaki glaze. The combinations of flavours make each shell-full a sticky sweet delight underpinned by a slight bite of beer.

Mushroom Burger. Close your eyes and image a tall tower – of mushrooms, with goats cheese topped with pine nuts and fresh basil pesto. Apparently it was almost chopped from the new menu but honestly, with the different textures and generous flavour combinations, it’s one of the best meals on the menu.

Moodie Burger. If a giant mushroom burger is not your thing, fear not, this season The Moodie Burger makes its triumphant return. A succulent beef burger patty with avo, feta, bacon, jalapeño and topped with tzatziki has never looked this good.

Fish Tacos. Now this is a near-perfect summer dish of salmon ceviche, salad and fresh coriander served in a hard shell corn taco, however it can get a bit messy if you’re taking smaller bites.

Baked Alaska. This heavenly sweet treat begins with a chocolate brownie that’s been incased by four layers of different flavored ice cream (French Vanilla, Cappuccino, Hot Chocolate and Salted Caramel), covered in a meringue that’s been lightly torched all over. So good you won’t even mind the calories.
