Just like the song, the video for The Vanilla’s debut single ‘The Sun’s Tide’ emulates the band’s DIY attitude and pop-sensibility.
Lead singer, Tyan Odendal, has a melodic voice that perfectly succinctly delivers the band’s message about being carefree – and you know, having fun by the seaside.
The song’s repeated Shortstraw-esque mantra of feel-the-rhythm-and-take-it-slow has playing on repeat in my head, a testament to its catchiness, but I’m looking forward to hearing the lyrical development of these pop tarts as they (hopefully) tackle an array of subject matter in future material.
Musically, the lead riffs and synth solos help to partially differentiate them from other bands doing a similar thing and serves as a good introduction and set-up for future releases.
