There is no end to Grassy Spark’s vibrant energy, and their latest release remains testimony to this through and through. The final single off their debut album, ‘Potal’ which was released last year, ‘Pyromaniac’, is a seamless marriage of ska and old school rock ‘n’ roll. Its release is paired with a Parkwood Session live performance video, which provides a close up view of them seven-piece deep inside in their performance zone.
Thematically the song is to be considered as something of a roller-coaster ride through varying feelings of obsession – largely in love. An energy-fueled, fast-paced, head-banger of a track, kept light to a certain degree by their brass-infused, ska tendencies. Their dual front-man-ship is on fire as usual, as Yannick Bathfield and Josh Riley trade the floor with ease – while a fiery guitar solo from Bathfield takes over the latter half of the frenetic track.
“I’m fixated/ I can almost taste you now/ can’t contain it/ spin me all around,” they belt out, the rasping, grittier vocals of Riley pairing effortlessly with Bathfield’s smoother tones, in a rollicking track which epitomizes them to a tee. Watch the video below.
