Chaos Doctrine dabble in the supernatural to pay tribute to Grigori Rasputin in their performance-video for “Father Grigori”.
Blending elements of thrash and industrial-metal the hard rockers bring an eerie anger to the mythology surrounding Rasputin. The song sees the band incorporate brief moments of melody, namely in the intro and outro and towards the end of guitarist Alec Surridge’s face-melting solo, to break up their trademark thrash-driven sound.
Shot at Gemini AD studios, the almost supernatural lighting of the video transports the band into an other-worldly space where you wouldn’t be surprised if a ghoul or two popped up for their moment in the spotlight. That, combined with frontman Daniel Burger’s borderline possessed performance, gives the whole production an intensity that compliments the myth, the man, and the song brilliantly.
Grigori Rasputin is a name shrouded in more mystery than most mortals could dream of and Chaos Doctrine’s video for “Father Grigori” feeds into that, creating a production as intensely intimidating as the monk is claimed to have been.
