Dr Lovefield (real name Richard Liefeldt) might be better known for his wild performances as the lead singer of psych-rock band, Retro Dizzy, but on his new self-produced single “7 Years” we find him quite vulnerable as he pauses to rethink his perspective on life.
“7 Years” is in essence a review of Dr. Lovefield’s life for the past seven years, during which he began his career in the wild music industry and started a life in Cape Town. Lyrically, he faces harsh truths, dealing with the never-ending sands of time, and trying to come to peace with change and all that it brings.
To capture the fragileness and sincerity of the song, Richard decided to record, mix and produce the song completely on his own, at his family home in the Hemel en Aarde Valley, just outside Hermanus. He recorded the entire song alone in his room, recording the initial acoustic guitar track with a guitar he borrowed from good friend Lucas Swart (Dangerfields).
This is the most vulnerable we have ever heard Dr. Lovefield and definitely a sign of the direction he will be going in for the foreseeable future.
