Long have synth and sci-fi gone hand in hand, something which certainly inspired Cece Vee when it came to making the music video for her latest single “Shooting Stars”.
Falling somewhere in the realm of video game-meets-post apocalyptic TV series (à la The 100), the video – co-directed by Vee and Joshua Cookson – is set in a forest and follows Vee and her warrior-outfitted (bow and arrow included) love interest hunting each other down in a (romantic?) game of cat and mouse.
The song, an ’80’s-inspired dance track that strays away from Vee’s edgier releases, is drenched in synthesizer and driven by a dynamic beat that’ll remain stuck in your head long after the song has ended. Erring on the side of disco, the glimmering, synth-led melodies give the song a spacey appeal, but its lyrics are deeply rooted in a very human (read: terrestrial) feeling.
Exploring the early stages of a relationship – the honeymoon phase – and lamenting just how quickly it fades, the song takes an earnest look at highs and lows of love and manages to remain an absolute earworm while doing so.
