Yashna releases five diverse singles that showcase her broad range

Yashna flexes invariable confidence with pretty much any genre she picks – and off the back of her latest EP, YA SHE, which took a contemporary hip-hop stance, she’s back to dabbling with her sound these days.

August saw her drop a song-a-week, with the fifth and final instalment of this mini-release phase dropping today. In keeping with her polished approach to just about everything she does, this slew of releases touched upon everything from mental health to gritty breakups, heartbreak to having it your way – following a distinct narrative arc.

“Inhale”, a delicate, sinewy R&B ode to hitting rock bottom started things off with a reminder to, well, breathe. Silvery authenticity threads the track as, with exhausted honesty, she explores just what it is to find yourself in a downward spiral. “Give You Up” follows a similar vein, liquid R&B  melody backing up a tale of self-imposed heartbreak found when you choose to walk away.

“Bite The Bullet” brings a minimalist alt-pop vibe to the fore as she waxes lyrical on finding the right guy at the wrong time – steeped in nostalgia and self-preservation. But then things get a little lighter.  “Fun Tonight” sees her back at her formidable peak – grooving funk rhythm, backing a reminder to live life to the fullest. All playful melody, and emotional-turnarounds.

Which brings us to today’s release. “Me & You” dials things a notch but this time for the better. It’s a swoony amapiano love song to tie the ribbon on August’s releases, bringing a driving, organic rhythm into play, backed up by loved-up, saccharine verses. And it might just see Yashna at her most personal yet.
