If you have heard Anime Yxngoat’s music before you know that the word normal is far cry from anything he produces. His sound is fresh, highly interesting and consistently genre bending, and his most recent single and video, “Ghost”, is an absurd look at computer generated imagery – and it works so well.
The video was directed, filmed and edited by Anime Yxngoat himself along with his brother Austin George (aka Mercury_Bydesign), while the track was produced and arranged by long-time musical collaborator Torivo.
The sleek futuristic design and feel of the visual adds an element of class which submerges the viewer into music. The song is broken into two parts. Part one is spoken word, leaning into an almost poetic style. The dense word “piece” is overlaid with 3D animated glitching abstract visuals. The theme of part one deals with neglect.
Part two has more of a classic hip hop style theme. The imagery see’s Anime Yxngoat rapping over conventional style beats and the video shows him through a classic street style lens, with his signature, glitching theme overlaId over each shot. It’s striking and unique, and while it might not serve as everyone’s cup of tea, Anime Yxngoat is pushing the envelope and it’s remarkable.
