Another day and another iconic musician lost. Paying their respects to the late Sinéad O’Connor, Foo Fighters and Alanis Morissette covered her song “Mandinka”.
O’Connor, well known for her activism and most notably her cover of Prince’s “Nothing Compares To You”, passed away last week at the age of 56.
The Foos & Alanis’ cover came during the the Foos’ set at Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival last week “We’re singing this song for a reason tonight,” Grohl said before starting the cover that appeared on O’Connor’s 1987 debut album The Lion And The Cobra.
“For a beautiful woman with high intelligence and deep empathy, way ahead of her time, who is no longer with us. This is for her,” Morissette added. Watch the performance below.
It was revealed earlier this week that O’Connor was working on a new album prior to her death, due for release early next year. She also mentioned that a 2024-2025 world tour was in the works. These would have been her first live shows in almost half a decade.
Here’s to remembering this legend and everything she stood for.
