Written in the aftermath of a particularly trying time, Reino Brink’s latest single “Trynna Fit In” comes as a heartfelt apology penned for his parents. Lifted off his debut album, it takes its cues from stripped back indie acoustics, favouring subdued melodics and rich vocals.
Hinged on the sort of vulnerability that only comes from attempting to make amends “Trynna Fit In” simultaneously expresses regret and outlines his reasoning for his actions. It’s delicately explanatory, wholeheartedly considered and put across with ease.
Jangling guitar and warm vocals hold the fore. It’s simple but that’s the point. He shifts focus from the fear the comes along with a rough emotional experience (“I just need to know that I’m not gonna be left alone/ I’m just trynna fit in”) to eddies of self-awareness ( “I’m just trynna fit in but they won’t let me be irrational”).
The video is warm and wooden, a group of backing musicians perch in a semi circle around Reino as he reels out the track in studio. It’s cosy and comfortable, delivering a coming of age track with remarkable simplicity.
