If there’s one thing about Retro Dizzy it’s that they know how to keep us on our toes, and not just musically. Their latest project is, in their own words, a psychedelic rock ‘n’ roll beer with plenty of reverb.
Yup, that’s right. The boys are making bezzas, and we couldn’t be more excited to crack open a cold one with them next Friday at Shackleton Brewing Company for the official launch of DIZZY ALE.
Here’s what Dizzy frontman Richard Liefeldt had to say about their latest endeavour.

Alessandro: Where did the idea come from to start DIZZY ALE?
Richard: It fell into our laps really – and then stayed there until we finally made it happen. Our mate DJ, who works at Shackleton Brewery, mentioned the idea to us a few months ago and we were interested but had no clue how to even start the process. We’ve done 4 albums, 3 singles, 1 million shows – but we’ve never done a beer. The concept seems so wild – we are just a rock ‘n’ roll band that makes noise.
In all honesty, we never really thought about having a beer until DJ mentioned it – and then it was all we could think about. It is such a sick idea and we thought it would be such a rad way to start the celebrations for our 10th birthday next year.
We are absolutely frothing, excuse the pun.
A: How long has this been in the works for?
R: A few months now. Once we had an idea of what we wanted to do, we got a hold of our talented friend Elio Moavero who designed the label. While we were doing that Steve was in the lab (read: brewery) cooking up Dizzy Ale. It’s been a lovely process and the Shackleton chaps have been so great.
A: What makes DIZZY ALE a “psychedelic rock ‘n’ roll beer with plenty of reverb”?
R: The powerful yet inviting flavour that seems to resonate long after the first sip, the golden hue resembling a burning sun, the immense sense of satisfaction that comes from cracking one open…
Sounds like a psychedelic rock ‘n’ roll beer with plenty of reverb to me.
A: I imagine having your own beer company must come with its perks, if you catch my drift? Tell me about the tasting process.
R: Lol well we don’t own a beer company and truth be told, we are happy we don’t. Seems like a lot of hard work and we didn’t get into the rock ‘n’ roll business to work hard!
But jokes aside – we have loved every step (and sip) of this process, and we are just so thankful to Shackleton Brewery for helping us make this happen.
A: Tell me about the DIZZY ALE launch that’s happening on the 15th. What can we expect?
R: So we will be celebrating the launch with a proper party at the Shackelton Brewery Company HQ in Paarden Eiland. Moskitos will be supporting the lineup and we will also have our super close homies Holy Funk & the Psych Night crew selecting tunes throughout.
Glue Factory will be sending your minds into another dimension with their visuals and rumour has it we will be dropping a music video. No joke, there’s your exclusive.
A: Where can we get our hands on a bottle or two of DIZZY ALE?
R: At this point it will be available at the wonderful Shackleton Brewery and directly through us (Instagram etc.) If you buy a case from us we might even drop it off ourselves and come enjoy a Dizzy Ale with you.
Other than that we have some really big plans for this and we can’t wait to see what the future has in store. Again – all the love to the chaps at Shackleton Brewery – we love you.
