We Kill Cowboys get real about the frustrations of dealing with self-centred people through a rollicking lens of fuzzy grunge psych-rock. Thundering drums and frenetic energy are tempered by a precise restraint which makes for an expertly balanced offering.
Feverish, gritty, and dark, “Earth Demon” is a fiery takedown of emotionally vacuous people, whose self-centred approach to life just sucks. “We know your weakness/ your untold secrets/ you are just a small boy and you are just a sad girl.”
The accompanying visual, directed by Owen Wilson – probably not that one – captures their live presence with saturated vivacity. The frames split and slide over one another, lending an unusual quality to the energy-fuelled video, while layers of multi-coloured neo-lighting soak the background.
Roaring, guttural mental inflections lend a searing punch to the final bars and We Kill Cowboys keep delivering the good stuff.
